Tejasvi Surya, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Member of Parliament for Bengaluru South, has voiced strong concerns over the deteriorating traffic situation in Karnataka’s capital. Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Surya highlighted the increasing distress caused by traffic congestion, even on Sundays, which were once considered relatively easier. He pointed out that the rapid increase in private vehicles in India’s IT hub is exacerbating the problem, leading to gridlock on even small lanes in residential areas.
Surya criticized the government’s lack of action in reducing the number of private vehicles and promoting public transport options. He highlighted the inadequacies of existing public transportation, including overcrowded buses and packed metro trains during peak hours. He also pointed out the unreliability of ride-hailing services and the challenges faced by pedestrians due to encroached footpaths and poor road infrastructure.
Surya further expressed his concerns about the declining quality of life in Bengaluru, citing the poor state of roads, littered with potholes and poorly designed speed bumps. He criticized the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for their inaction in addressing these issues.
In a direct appeal to the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D K Shivkumar, Surya called for an urgent meeting with elected representatives and traffic management experts to discuss and implement comprehensive solutions to address the growing traffic crisis in Bengaluru.
