East Bengal Crash Out of Durand Cup After Shocking Loss to Shillong Lajong

East Bengal’s campaign in the Durand Cup 2024 came to a disappointing end on Wednesday after a shocking 1-2 loss to Shillong Lajong in the quarterfinals at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The hosts took an early lead in the eighth minute through a goal from Rudwere. East Bengal struggled to find their footing in the first half, but managed to equalize in the 78th minute thanks to a goal from Nandhakumar Sekar. However, their hopes of a comeback were dashed five minutes later when Figo scored the winning goal for Shillong Lajong.

This unexpected defeat marks the end of East Bengal’s Durand Cup journey for this year. The team will now shift their focus to the upcoming I-League season.
