Motive Energy has successfully completed its latest solar and electric vehicle (EV) charging project at Samueli Academy, a public charter school and program of the Orangewood Foundation in Santa Ana, California. The project, completed before the start of the new school year, demonstrates Motive Energy’s commitment to providing energy solutions without disrupting daily operations.
The project involved the installation of 590kW of solar panels across five carports and six rooftops, along with four Level II EV charging ports. The entire project was completed within 64 days from mobilization and was operational within 76 days, showcasing Motive Energy’s efficiency and expertise.
Samueli Academy will benefit significantly from this project. They will enjoy a fixed cost of energy for the next 30 years and are expected to save $205,000 in their first year alone. The solar panels and charging stations provide much-needed shaded parking for faculty and staff, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of the campus.
Anthony Saba, Executive Director at Samueli Academy, expressed excitement about the upgrades, stating, “We’re incredibly excited to have solar installed on campus. This new initiative will lower our energy bills and carbon footprint. Our students now see how the earth’s natural resources can be transformed and substantially impact their lives, perfectly fitting within our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum and Project-based learning approach.”
The project aligns with Motive Energy’s broader strategy of supporting non-profits in achieving energy independence through economically viable solutions. Chris Simonsen, CEO of the Orangewood Foundation, highlighted the financial and environmental benefits of the partnership, saying, “This partnership demonstrates that non-profits can implement significant sustainable solutions with positive returns on investments.
