Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent state visit to India concluded on a musical note, with the leader adding a personal touch to his official engagements. During his stay at Delhi’s Taj Hotel, Ibrahim was captured on video singing the classic Bollywood song ‘Dost Dost Na Raha’ by Mukesh, accompanied by musicians who provided the rhythm. The video quickly went viral, showcasing the Prime Minister’s love for Bollywood and his ability to connect with the Indian culture through music.
This impromptu performance came after Ibrahim had expressed his admiration for Bollywood and actor Shammi Kapoor. The Taj Hotel, recognizing his passion, arranged for the musical experience, adding a delightful element to his visit. Notably, Ibrahim had resided in the Grand Presidential Suite of the Taj Mansingh Hotel during his stay in Delhi.
The official visit, which took place from August 19th to 21st, was Ibrahim’s first as the Prime Minister of Malaysia. He received a warm ceremonial welcome from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 20th. Both leaders posed for photographs, signifying the strong bond between the two nations.
During his visit, Ibrahim held bilateral talks with Modi at Hyderabad House, focusing on expanding trade and investment opportunities. The meeting resulted in several agreements, including one on employment and repatriation of workers and another on enhancing cooperation in digital technologies. The leaders also agreed to elevate the India-Malaysia partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, recognizing the vast potential for collaboration in diverse fields.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of Malaysia as a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy and a valued partner in the region. The visit served as a testament to the growing bilateral relationship between the two countries, further solidifying their commitment to shared prosperity and cooperation in the international arena.
