San Antonio Airport Breaks Passenger Record in July

San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has reached a major milestone, recording its busiest month ever in July 2024. A total of 1,032,610 travelers passed through SAT, exceeding the previous record of 1,000,172 set in July 2023. This represents a 3% increase in passenger traffic, highlighting the growing popularity of San Antonio as a travel destination.

This record-breaking month underlines SAT’s role as a key travel hub in the region, attracting both business and leisure travelers. The airport’s continued growth is fueled by ongoing enhancements to services and infrastructure, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for all.

“We’re continuing to see record-breaking passenger levels at SAT,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, City of San Antonio Aviation Department. “We are growing every day with new destinations and flights being added yearly. The more you continue to choose to fly from SAT, the more airlines respond to that demand and add more service.”

This record-breaking July follows a trend of impressive growth for SAT. For the second time in its history, the airport surpassed the one million passenger mark, maintaining a record-breaking monthly streak that began in May 2023. This momentum is poised to make 2024 SAT’s busiest year on record, with nearly 10.7 million passengers expected to pass through its gates.

Several airlines have responded to the increasing demand by expanding their services to San Antonio. Notable increases in seat capacity for July compared to the same month in 2023 came from Spirit Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Aeromexico, Frontier Airlines, Volaris, Sun Country, Viva Aerobus, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. A significant highlight was on July 10th, when Spirit Airlines launched a new route from SAT, offering twice-daily nonstop service to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). This service complements existing flights to the Dallas area provided by American Airlines to DFW and Southwest Airlines to Dallas-Love Field (DAL).

Looking ahead, SAT is set to continue expanding its offerings. The airport’s growth reflects the city’s popularity as a vibrant travel destination and its commitment to providing a world-class travel experience. With ongoing expansion, SAT is well-positioned to remain a key travel hub for years to come.
