Maharashtra will witness a state-wide bandh on August 24th, called by the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to protest against the alleged sexual assault of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane district. The bandh aims to highlight the importance of women’s safety and demand swift action from the government.
The alleged sexual assault incident occurred last week, involving two kindergarten students who were allegedly abused by cleaning staff at the school. On August 17th, police arrested an attendant of the school in connection with the case. The incident sparked widespread outrage in Badlapur and beyond.
The Bombay High Court took suo motu cognizance of the alleged sexual assault on August 22nd, assuring that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly from all angles. The High Court stated that no mistakes will be made in the investigation process.
Uddhav Thackeray, leader of the Sena UBT, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that those who view the Badlapur protest as insignificant are either abnormal or protectors of the culprits.
The Maharashtra bandh is expected to have a significant impact across the state, with various organizations and groups participating in the protest. The MVA has called upon all its allies to participate in the bandh, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate action to address the issue of women’s safety.
