Modi’s Landmark Visit to Ukraine Amidst War: Focus on Bilateral Ties and Peace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine on Friday, amidst the ongoing war with Russia, has been hailed as ‘landmark.’ During his visit, Modi held extensive talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, a significant portion of the discussions between the two leaders was devoted to strengthening bilateral ties. This included exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation in trade, economics, defense, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and education. Modi and Zelensky tasked an inter-governmental commission to prioritize rebuilding trade and economic relations.

The ongoing war with Russia was also a major focus of the discussions. Modi emphasized the need for “practical engagement between all stakeholders” to foster innovative solutions and establish peace in the region. He reiterated India’s commitment to contributing in every way possible to expedite the return of peace.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of a swift return to normalcy in Ukraine and urged Indian students in the area to exercise caution. He expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, allowing life to return to normal.
