A new CCTV footage has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder and rape of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, providing crucial evidence against the prime suspect, Sanjay Roy. The footage, which is circulating online, shows Roy exiting the college’s seminar hall with a Bluetooth device around his neck and a helmet in his hand. This detail corroborates the police’s findings, as they had previously recovered a similar Bluetooth device from the crime scene.
According to reports, the footage shows Roy entering the seminar hall on the fourth floor of the medical college on August 9th, hours before the crime took place. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt and carrying a helmet, which is part of the uniform issued to Kolkata Police personnel. This confirms his presence at the hospital around the time of the murder, strengthening the case against him.
Sanjay Roy, a 33-year-old civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police since 2019, has been described as a “womaniser” who has been married at least four times. He has also faced allegations of domestic violence. Roy, a trained boxer, gained credibility within the police department by cultivating close relationships with several officers. He was recently stationed at the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the heinous crime occurred.
The CCTV footage is vital for the investigation, as it not only places Roy at the crime scene but also provides concrete evidence linking him to the Bluetooth device found at the scene. This further strengthens the case against him and adds weight to the accusations of his involvement in the doctor’s murder and rape.
