India and Indonesia have jointly condemned the use of terrorist proxies for cross-border terrorism, specifically targeting Pakistan’s support for terror groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir. This strong stance was articulated during the sixth meeting of the India-Indonesia Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism, held in Jakarta on Friday.
Both countries emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to combat terrorism effectively. They discussed strategies to counter the misuse of new and emerging technologies by terrorist organizations, recognizing the evolving nature of the threat. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Sunday highlighting the key takeaways from the meeting.
The statement emphasized that India and Indonesia strongly condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They underscored the importance of strengthening international cooperation to combat terrorism comprehensively and sustainably.
Furthermore, both sides condemned the “use of terrorist proxies for cross-border terrorism,” highlighting the issue of Pakistan’s support for terror groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir. They exchanged views on the domestic, regional, and global terrorism threat assessment, recognizing the multifaceted nature of the threat.
The meeting also focused on counter-terrorism challenges related to the use of new and emerging technologies by terrorists. The misuse of the internet for terrorist purposes, terror financing, and the nexus between organized crime and terrorism were also discussed.
India and Indonesia pledged to cooperate in regional, global, and multilateral forums such as the UN, ARF (ASEAN Regional Forum), and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) to combat global terrorism.
The Indian delegation at the meeting was led by K D Dewal, Joint Secretary (Counter-Terrorism) in the MEA. The Indonesian team was headed by Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, Deputy for International Cooperation at the National Counter Terrorism Agency.
