Malayalam film actor Siddique has filed a complaint with the Kerala Police against actress Revathy Sampath, following her accusations of sexual harassment. The complaint was submitted to the Director General of Police (DGP), according to the Kerala Police’s public relations officer (PRO).
Revathy Sampath has alleged that Siddique sexually abused her, both physically and mentally, when she was 21 years old. She claims the incident occurred during a discussion about a potential film project. She stated that Siddique’s behavior towards her was inappropriate, including sending her messages on Facebook and referring to her in a derogatory manner. She further alleged that Siddique sexually assaulted her during the discussion.
Sampath’s allegations came to light after the release of the Hema Committee Report, which investigated sexual harassment within the Malayalam film industry. She shared her experience, stating that she suffered severe mental trauma as a result of the incident, which also impacted her professional life. She expressed that she felt unsupported by the system and took a long time to come forward with her story.
In response to the allegations, Siddique has denied any wrongdoing. He has resigned from his position as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Siddique is a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, having appeared in over 300 Malayalam movies and also acted in Tamil films like ‘Jana’ and ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’.
The Kerala Police is currently investigating the complaint filed by Siddique. It remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold and what consequences, if any, will be faced by either party. The case has sparked a renewed conversation about sexual harassment within the Malayalam film industry, highlighting the need for systemic change and support for victims.
