Heavy rainfall in Gujarat has caused significant disruption, leading to flight delays and travel advisories at Ahmedabad Airport. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for August 27, warning of heavy precipitation throughout the day.
Ahmedabad Airport took to X (formerly Twitter) to advise passengers to check flight schedules with their respective airlines and allow extra time for check-in at SVPI Airport. They assured travelers that their teams are working around the clock to ensure a smooth journey.
IndiGo Airlines also issued a travel advisory on Monday midnight, citing heavy rainfall that caused waterlogging in several areas. The airline acknowledged that the inclement weather impacted flight operations, urging passengers to check their flight status. IndiGo reassured passengers that dedicated staff and teams are deployed to provide assistance and support during this challenging time.
Beyond air travel, Western Railways canceled and diverted a number of trains due to the heavy rains. Traffic movement was also disrupted as flood-like conditions emerged across the state.
The Meteorological Department forecasts heavy to extremely heavy rain over the next two to three days. To address the situation, Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, convened a high-level meeting at the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar to assess the impact of the heavy rains.
According to ANI, citing a press release, 17,827 people have been evacuated and 1,653 rescued. 13 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and 22 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to assist in rescue and relief operations in the affected districts.
