The special investigation team (SIT) investigating the sexual assault case involving two four-year-old girls in Badlapur, India, has announced plans for an identification parade. This parade will involve the victims identifying the accused in the presence of an executive magistrate. The SIT is also working on developing a psychological profile of the accused, which they believe will be crucial in furthering the investigation.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and protests following the allegations that a school attendant sexually abused the young girls. The state government has vowed to take strict action against the perpetrator.
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the initial handling of the case by the Badlapur police, stating they lacked the necessary sensitivity. The court pointed out that one of the victim girls and her family were asked to go to the police station to give their statement, despite the police not even attempting to record it at their home. The court deemed this a serious lapse in the investigation.
The court also emphasized the need for gender education in schools, advocating for the inclusion of lessons on gender equality and sensitization from the pre-primary level itself. The bench asserted that male dominance and chauvinism persist, highlighting the need to address this issue at a young age. They stressed the importance of teaching boys about respect for women and the consequences of harmful behaviors.
The court acknowledged the need for increased awareness and expressed concern about the excessive use of social media among children. The case continues to be investigated by the SIT with the aim of ensuring justice for the young victims and preventing similar incidents in the future.
