Fayetteville Regional Airport has appointed Andrew LaGala as its new director, effective October 2, 2024. LaGala, a seasoned aviation professional with over 30 years of experience, will take the helm after an extensive 11-month search. His appointment signifies a new chapter for the airport, poised for continued growth and expansion.
LaGala’s career in aviation is marked by a strong foundation in operations and management. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is a licensed private pilot. He is also a member of the American Association of Airport Executives and earned his Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) designation in 2018.
“His extensive experience is very impressive,” said Fayetteville City Manager Douglas Hewett. “Andrew’s knowledge of both airport operations and air service development will serve the airport well in our future expansion efforts,” added Hewett.
LaGala is enthusiastic about his new role. “I am excited to have been selected to assume this critical leadership role as airport director of Fayetteville Regional Airport and to contribute to the airport’s continued success and growth,” said LaGala. “Maintaining an efficient full-service airport with quality airline service is a key element in local economic development efforts, and I see tremendous opportunity for FAY to enhance its potential to contribute to those efforts.”
Prior to joining Fayetteville Regional Airport, LaGala served as Airport Director at Lynchburg Regional Airport for five years. During his tenure, he spearheaded several key initiatives, including developing a strategic plan for post-COVID recovery to restore airline flight frequency. He also oversaw the rehabilitation of the primary runway and implemented numerous capital improvement projects at the airport.
Fayetteville Regional Airport has seen significant investment in recent years. “We’ve already completed more than $60 million in capital improvements over the last several years, were able to secure two additional flights to Atlanta, received $5 million for an international terminal and will break ground on a consolidated rental car facility shortly,” stated Hewett.
With LaGala’s expertise and the airport’s continued investment, Fayetteville Regional Airport is well-positioned to enhance its services, expand its reach, and contribute to the economic development of the region.
