Sanya Tourism Board and PATA Partner to Boost Sustainable Tourism in Tropical Coastal Cities

The Sanya Tourism Board and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) have joined forces to promote sustainable tourism development in tropical coastal cities across the Asia Pacific region. This partnership was officially announced during the 2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event Media Briefing on August 27th, held in conjunction with PATA Travel Mart 2024.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by Director General Albert Yip of the Sanya Tourism Board and CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid of PATA outlines a comprehensive plan for collaboration. The partnership aims to:

“By joining forces, we can work together to elevate tropical islands and coastal destinations as premier travel hubs,” said PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid. “PATA is committed to assisting global destinations in identifying their distinct advantages and developing travel experiences that not only draw international tourists but also safeguard their cultural and natural heritage.”

Sanya, known as China’s most emblematic tropical coastal city, boasts abundant tourism resources and strategic geographical benefits, making it an ideal partner for PATA’s initiatives.

As part of the MOU, both organizations have committed to jointly hosting the Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event in Sanya annually for the next three years, starting in 2024. This initiative will further strengthen Sanya’s position in the global island tourism market.

Sanya has also launched the initiative to establish the Tropical Coastal City Tourism Alliance, a platform for tropical coastal cities worldwide to exchange insights, build connections, and work together to revitalize and grow the sector.

The 2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event, themed “The Next Wave: Shaping the Future of Tourism Marketing in Tropical Coastal Cities,” will be held at the China Hyatt Regency Sanya Tianli Bay in Sanya, Hainan, China, on September 4-5. The conference will focus on:
