Zelenskyy Outlines Four-Stage Plan for Ukraine’s Victory, Seeks US Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has presented a four-stage plan for Ukraine’s victory, aiming to discuss it with US President Joe Biden during their meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in September. Zelenskyy, who will be attending the assembly, highlighted the critical role of US support in the success of this plan at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the future US presidency, Zelenskyy plans to discuss the plan with both presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, to ensure its continuity regardless of who takes office. The four key stages of the plan are:

1.

Incursion into Kursk Region:

Zelenskyy revealed that the first stage of his plan involved a cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, which he described as “already done.” He emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “The Kursk region is part of our plan. The plan of our victory. It may sound ambitious for someone, but it’s a very important plan for us.”

2.

Strengthening Ukraine’s Global Security Role:

The second part of Zelenskyy’s plan focuses on enhancing Ukraine’s strategic position within the global security framework. He described this as crucial for reinforcing Ukraine’s role on the international stage.

3.

Diplomatic Pressure on Russia:

The third component involves a diplomatic effort to compel Russia to end the conflict. Zelenskyy stressed that this stage includes a “powerful package” designed to bring about a resolution through negotiations rather than military means.

4.

Economic Strategy:

The fourth and final element of the plan pertains to economic strategies, although Zelenskyy chose not to provide specific details on this aspect at this time.

Zelenskyy’s plan emphasizes a comprehensive approach to achieving Ukraine’s objectives, combining military, strategic, diplomatic, and economic measures. He indicated that the success of this multi-faceted strategy largely hinges on continued support and resources from the United States.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin dismissed Zelenskiy’s talk about the plan and reiterated its commitment to its ongoing military operation in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “This is not the first time that we have heard such statements from representatives of the Kyiv regime. We are aware of the nature of this Kyiv regime. We are continuing our special military operation and will achieve all of our goals.”

Russia is currently engaged in repelling the Ukrainian incursion that began on August 6, and is pressing ahead with its own offensive in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

Peskov also said that Russia supported India’s view on the need for a peaceful settlement, but said it was “more than obvious” that there was no basis for talks right now. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that he had told Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call that he backed an early, peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, days after Modi held talks with Zelenskiy in Kyiv.
