Wynn Resorts, in collaboration with Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, has unveiled a comprehensive plan for the next phase of Hudson Yards, dubbed Hudson Yards West. This ambitious $12 billion proposal, if approved by city and state officials, would transform the currently undeveloped western rail yards into a thriving hub of economic activity and community engagement.
At the heart of this revitalization project lies Hudson Green, a sprawling 5.6-acre public park designed by the acclaimed teams of Hollander Design and Sasaki. Envisioned as a green oasis within the bustling city, Hudson Green will offer breathtaking views of the Hudson River and provide residents and visitors with ample space to relax, play, and connect with nature. The park will feature open lawns, gardens, playgrounds, groves, a dog run, and over 300 trees, creating a vibrant landscape comparable in size to Bryant Park.
The architectural design of the development is being spearheaded by Wynn Design and Development, the in-house team of designers, architects, and creatives at Wynn Resorts. New renderings and video animations showcase the development’s seamless integration into the existing neighborhood, including Hudson Yards and the Javits Center. The project also highlights how Hudson Green will connect to both the High Line and Hudson River Park, enhancing the overall connectivity and accessibility of the area.
Wynn New York City, a luxury resort and the project’s driving economic force, will serve as the development’s centerpiece. The resort is expected to create thousands of jobs for New Yorkers across various sectors, providing significant economic benefits to the community. This updated vision for Hudson Yards West aligns with the approved uses outlined in the 2009 zoning plan, but has evolved to address the city’s current landscape and economic infrastructure needs.
The project’s developers, Related Companies, Oxford Properties Group, and Wynn Resorts, have emphasized their commitment to community engagement and have incorporated numerous community benefits into the proposal. These benefits include:
*
Wynn Neighborhood Improvement Fund:
This fund will allocate resources to key areas identified by the community, such as public safety and security, sanitation, beautification of public spaces, and support for local artists.*
Affordable Housing:
The development will include 1,500 units of housing, with hundreds designated as affordable apartments.*
Transportation Improvements:
The project will enhance transportation infrastructure in the area, ensuring ease of access for residents and visitors. In addition to these community benefits, the development is expected to create 35,000 unionized construction jobs during its development phase, followed by 5,000 permanent union careers within the resort itself. The project has garnered support from unions, trade organizations, and small businesses due to its potential to create jobs and boost the local economy.
The unveiling of this comprehensive plan marks a significant step towards realizing the vision for Hudson Yards West. The next phase of the project will involve further community engagement and detailed planning, with the aim of bringing this transformative development to life.
