Lioness Returns for Season 2 with Blood, Action, and Familiar Faces

Get ready for more espionage and thrills as ‘Lioness’ returns for its second season this fall! Paramount+ has announced that season 2 will premiere on Sunday, October 27, 2024, with two brand new episodes. The streaming service has also released the first photos from the upcoming season, and they’re already raising excitement. One particular image shows Zoe Saldaña, who plays CIA officer Joe, covered in blood, hinting at a thrilling and action-packed season ahead.

‘Lioness’ is inspired by the real-life Marine Corps’ Lioness Task Force. The series follows Joe, who leads a special program designed to infiltrate and dismantle dangerous terrorist organizations. In season 1, we saw the recruitment of Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) to join the Lioness program and work undercover alongside Joe.

Season 2 will bring back familiar faces, including Saldaña and De Oliveira. Also returning are Genesis Rodriguez as Josie Carillo, Michael Kelly as Bryon Westfield, Morgan Freeman as U.S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins, and Nicole Kidman as Kaitlyn Meade. The season will also feature a talented supporting cast including Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier.

Filming for season 2 is currently underway in Texas, and the anticipation for its release is growing. ‘Lioness’ is the brainchild of Taylor Sheridan, known for his critically acclaimed series like ‘Yellowstone,’ ‘Mayor of Kingstown,’ and ‘1883.’ The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, with Sheridan, Saldaña, Kidman, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox serving as executive producers.

Season 1 of ‘Lioness’ premiered in July 2023, generating a record-breaking 6 million total viewers in its first week across Paramount+ globally and Paramount Network. All eight episodes of season 1 are available to stream on Paramount+, giving fans a chance to catch up before the new season premieres.
