Delhi University’s Academic Session Begins Today Amidst Ongoing Admissions

The academic session for 2024-25 at Delhi University commenced on Tuesday, August 29th. Classes for the first semester are scheduled to begin roughly three weeks later than their usual start date, a delay attributed to the postponed release of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) results.

The admission process for Delhi University is still underway. The university announced the second round of allocations for undergraduate programs in various colleges on Sunday, August 25th. Candidates shortlisted in this round have until 4:59 PM on Friday, August 30th, to submit their fees. Only those who complete payment before the deadline will be eligible to participate in subsequent “Upgrade” rounds. The window for accepting Round-II allocations through the DU dashboard closed on Tuesday.

According to a university notice, the third round of allocations will focus on Performance-based programs and Supernumerary quotas for candidates with special categories, including Children of War Widows (CW), Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA), Sports, and Ward quotas. The schedule for this third round is yet to be announced.

For the latest updates on admissions, prospective students are advised to consult the official university website at admission.uod.ac.in.

The delayed start of the academic session can be attributed to the late release of the CUET-UG results. CUET-UG serves as a single-window test for admission to undergraduate programs in several central universities. The results were initially expected to be declared on June 30th, but faced significant delays due to controversies involving irregularities and allegations of paper leaks during the exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The results were ultimately declared on July 28th.

The delay in the academic session is a direct consequence of the delayed CUET-UG results. As explained by Delhi University registrar Vikas Gupta, the university needs to carefully map the CUET-UG results with its own data to determine which subjects and colleges each student is eligible for. This detailed mapping process takes time, contributing to the pushback of the academic session start date.
