After a glittering 15-year career representing his country, Jesus Navas has announced his retirement from international football. The winger, who recently helped Spain win the Euro, made his final appearance for La Roja in the semi-final against France during Euro 2024.
Navas, 38, was the only remaining player in the Spanish squad from their legendary 2010 World Cup triumph. He debuted for Spain in 2009 and went on to win the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euro Cup. In a heartfelt post on X, he expressed his gratitude towards the staff, teammates, coaches and fans of the national team.
“The greatest thing is to defend my country,” Navas wrote. He also shared that the decision to retire was not an easy one, but he recognizes his time at the highest level has come to an end. “The dream and the memories will remain intact, as will the pride of having made so many people happy. But this time Luis de la Fuente will no longer name me. A cycle that began fifteen years ago is coming to a close, with a lot of joy that filled us with pride and excitement,” he added.
With Spain set to announce a new squad for upcoming tournaments, Navas has also revealed that this will be his final season with his club Sevilla. This marks the end of a truly remarkable journey for the talented winger who will be missed by fans around the world.
