While Mbappe was in Spain, the hacked account was used to post a flurry of provocative messages, sending shockwaves through the football community.
The hacked account aggressively promoted a cryptocurrency, ‘$MBAPPE’, claiming it had already reached 90,000 sales. It also made controversial statements about rival clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur, further escalating tensions between supporters.
One of the most notable tweets declared, “Manchester is Red,” a clear declaration of support for Manchester United. Another post praised a United fan account, @UTDTrey, as “the best account on ft (football Twitter).” When a user asked Mbappe about a potential move to London, the hacked account responded with a scathing, “London is s*** bro.”
Perhaps the most inflammatory post was a declaration that Cristiano Ronaldo was “the greatest football player of all time.” It also included a derogatory term aimed at Lionel Messi, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, further fanning the flames of the long-standing Ronaldo-Messi rivalry.
While these tweets were quickly deleted, they had already sparked widespread controversy and added fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding the two football giants. This incident is particularly notable considering Mbappe’s recent transfer to Real Madrid, a team closely associated with Ronaldo’s arch-rival, Messi.
This hacking incident came on the heels of Mbappe’s much-anticipated La Liga debut for Real Madrid. The match, however, ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw against Mallorca on the opening day of the new season. Despite showcasing glimpses of his brilliance, Mbappe was unable to secure a victory in his first league match in Spain.
