India’s Sheetal Devi Secures Silver in Women’s Compound Open Ranking Round at Paris Paralympics

Indian para archer Sheetal Devi delivered a stellar performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024, securing a silver medal in the women’s individual compound open ranking round. Devi narrowly missed out on gold by a single point, falling just short of Turkiye’s Oznur Cure Girdi, who set a new world record with a score of 704. Devi’s performance was remarkable, as she achieved a new personal best score of 703.

This achievement is even more significant considering the previous world record of 698 was set by Great Britain’s Phoebe Paterson Pine earlier this month, while the previous Paralympic Record of 694 belonged to another British para archer, Jessica Stretton, from Tokyo 2020.

Fellow Indian archer Sarita finished ninth in the ranking round with a score of 682. Both archers will be looking to build on their strong performances in the upcoming stages of the competition. Devi’s silver medal is a testament to her dedication and skill, and her performance has raised hopes for a successful campaign in the upcoming events.
