Speeding Car Kills Motorcyclist in Goregaon, Mumbai; Two Arrested

A 24-year-old man tragically lost his life in another hit-and-run incident in Mumbai. The incident occurred in the Goregaon area of the city when a speeding car collided with the victim’s motorcycle. The driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Upon receiving information about the accident, police arrived at the location and rushed the injured motorcyclist to the hospital, where he was unfortunately declared dead. The police have since seized the car involved in the accident and arrested two individuals in connection with the incident. One of the arrested individuals is a minor.

This incident comes just over a month after another fatal hit-and-run incident in Mumbai’s Worli area. In that case, a speeding BMW car crashed into a motorcycle near Atria Mall, killing a 45-year-old woman named Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband Pradeep.

The driver of the BMW, Mihir Shah, went into hiding following the accident, but was eventually apprehended by the police in Virar after more than two days. The police also arrested the driver of the car, Rajendra Singh Bidawat, and the father of the accused, Rajesh Shah, for their alleged involvement in the incident.

While Rajesh Shah, a former Shiv Sena leader, was granted bail, Mihir Shah and Bidawat remain in judicial custody.

Last week, the Bombay High Court sought a response from the police regarding Mihir Shah’s petition for immediate release. Shah argued that his arrest was unlawful and that further detention would violate his constitutional rights. He claimed that the police had not followed proper procedures when arresting him, failing to inform him of the specific charges against him as required by Section 50 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The court has ordered the police to file a reply affidavit and set August 29 as the next hearing date.
