Arizona Launches Efficiency Arizona to Boost Home Energy Efficiency and Save Residents Money

Arizona is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable future with the launch of Efficiency Arizona, a statewide initiative designed to boost home energy efficiency and provide significant cost savings to residents. This program, a partnership between Resource Innovations and the Arizona Governor’s Office of Resiliency, will distribute federal dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act to Arizona households.

The initiative will be rolled out in phases, starting this fall, with the first phase focusing on replacing air conditioning units with energy-efficient heat pumps for eligible low-income residents facing extreme heat. This initial phase is a collaboration with Wildfire and other regional community action agencies.

Efficiency Arizona encompasses two primary rebate programs:

*

HOMES Program:

This program offers performance-based rebates for comprehensive home energy-saving retrofits. Experts will work with homeowners to identify and implement tailored energy efficiency solutions, and rebate amounts will be determined by the level of energy savings achieved. This program is expected to be available later in the fall of 2024.
*

HEAR Program:

This program, targeted at low-income and historically underserved households, provides substantial rebates for installing qualifying electrification equipment. Eligible households can receive up to $14,000 in total rebates for projects like installing ENERGY STAR-certified electric heat pumps, water heaters, and other energy-efficient appliances. This program will be launched in phases over the coming months, with the first phase focusing on an emergency program for qualifying individuals who need their home air conditioning replaced.

Efficiency Arizona will be implemented in three key phases:

*

Phase I (August 29, 2024):

Launch of the emergency air-conditioning replacement program, targeted at qualifying individuals and families facing financial hardship and heat emergencies.
*

Phase II (Fall 2024):

Statewide rollout of the home retrofit program, offering energy efficiency rebates to a broader audience.
*

Phase III (Winter 2024):

Introduction of the Multifamily Pilot Program, aimed at improving energy efficiency in multifamily residential properties.

Resource Innovations will collaborate with local community-based organizations, utilities, and industry associations across Arizona to ensure the successful implementation of Efficiency Arizona. The initiative also presents a significant opportunity for contractors and other industry professionals to contribute to the program’s success.
