Formula One Safety Car Crashes During Testing at Monza

A concerning incident occurred during pre-race testing at Monza on Thursday when the Formula One safety car, driven by Bernd Maylander, crashed. The Aston Martin vehicle spun off the track at high speed on the Parabolica corner, ultimately impacting the tire barrier. Thankfully, both the driver and passenger emerged unscathed from the incident.

The FIA, the governing body of motorsport, released a statement confirming the incident and clarifying that an additional safety car is readily available at the circuit. This ensures that the incident will not affect the weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The F1 medical car, also conducting test runs, immediately responded to the scene, collecting Maylander and his passenger and returning them to the pits.

This incident occurred during standard pre-race preparations, just as the F1 weekend began. The Monza track, resurfaced for the first time since 1922, is ready for the upcoming race, and drivers will get their chance to familiarize themselves with the new surface during Friday’s free practice sessions. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by Aston Martin.
