During a preview clip released Thursday afternoon, CNN host Dana Bash questioned Harris about changes in her positions on energy and other matters. Bash specifically asked if these changes were due to gaining more experience, adjusting to a presidential primary, or a reflection of her true policy goals.
Harris responded by asserting that her “values have not changed” throughout her political career. She used her support for the Green New Deal and her commitment to tackling climate change as examples, highlighting her work on the Inflation Reduction Act. She further emphasized her dedication to border security, citing her experience as California Attorney General where she prosecuted transnational criminal organizations involved in illegal gun, drug, and human trafficking.
Harris has faced criticism from voters, political analysts, and the Trump campaign regarding policy shifts since emerging as the Democratic nominee. For instance, her stance on fracking has been challenged. While she previously supported a ban on the oil extraction technique, her campaign recently announced that she no longer supports a ban. Additionally, she has distanced herself from programs like “Medicare for All” and semiautomatic rifle buybacks, positions she advocated for during her failed 2020 primary campaign.
The full interview with Harris will air on CNN Thursday evening at 9 p.m. Bash revealed that the interview will delve into Harris’ policies on the economy, inflation, the environment, and immigration. The interview took place in Georgia, a crucial swing state, at Kim’s Cafe, a Black-owned restaurant in Savannah. Harris was joined by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, for the interview.
