In her first major interview since becoming the Democratic nominee for president, Kamala Harris has outlined her stance on key policy issues, including immigration and Israel’s armament.
During an interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash, Harris expressed her intention to enforce stricter border legislation and uphold laws against illegal border crossings. She criticized President Trump for killing a bipartisan bill aimed at addressing the U.S.-Mexico border situation and vowed to revive the bill if elected. Harris stated, “We have laws that have to be followed and enforced, that address and deal with people who cross our border illegally, and there should be consequence.”
Despite calls from some Democrats to reconsider weapon supply to Israel due to the high Palestinian death toll in Gaza, Harris reaffirmed her support for Israel. While emphasizing the need for a ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict, she rejected the idea of withholding weapons from Israel.
Since her nomination, Harris has seen a surge in both polls and campaign donations. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Thursday shows her leading Trump by 45% to 41%.
The interview marks Harris’s first major media appearance since accepting the Democratic nomination. Her policy shifts, particularly on immigration and Israel’s armament, were widely anticipated as key indicators of her stance on critical voter issues. Harris defended her policy positions and dismissed Trump’s claims about her racial identity. She also highlighted her commitment to environmental issues and her openness to including a Republican in her cabinet.
This interview comes at a time when Trump’s campaign strategy against Harris is raising concerns among Republicans. The effectiveness of his attacks on Harris and his alignment with fringe politicians have been questioned by Republican strategists and donors.
