BYD Launches New Xia MPV Series, Expanding Product Lineup

BYD Co., Ltd. has unveiled a new model series called Xia, marking its entry into the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment. The first model in this series, the Xia MPV, was launched at the Chengdu auto show and is set to broaden BYD’s product portfolio.

The Xia MPV, priced around RMB 300,000 ($42,340), is expected to be available for purchase later this year. This model joins BYD’s Dynasty lineup, which is named after historic Chinese dynasties. Notably, the company also has the Ocean series. Past models in the Dynasty series include the Han, Tang, Qin, Song, and Yuan, each named after a prominent dynasty.

The Xia MPV boasts BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, unveiled on May 28th. This technology promises improved fuel efficiency and is expected to be a key selling point for the vehicle. The Xia MPV is a sizable vehicle, measuring 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm.

Currently, BYD’s only other MPV available in China is the Denza D9, which has been enjoying consistent popularity, averaging around 10,000 units sold monthly over the past five months. The Denza D9, with its impressive size (5,250 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,920 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm), accounts for a substantial portion of Denza’s overall sales. The company’s previous MPV, the Song Max DM-i, was discontinued in China after being introduced in March 2022.

Beyond the Chinese market, BYD launched the M6 electric MPV in Indonesia in July. This model, though not available in China, marks BYD’s foray into the all-electric MPV segment for Indonesia.
