The Paris Paralympics 2024 officially commenced on Thursday, August 24th, and will conclude on September 8th. India made an impressive start to the Games, claiming two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal in the first three days of competition.
Avani Lekhara, a star performer in the previous Paralympics, continued her winning streak by securing a gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 category on Friday, August 25th. Mona Agarwal joined the celebrations by claiming the bronze medal in the same event.
The momentum continued as Preethi Pal won a bronze medal in the women’s 100m T35 event. Manish Narwal added another medal to India’s tally, securing a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 category.
China currently holds the top position in the medal table with an impressive 25 medals, including 12 golds. Great Britain follows closely in second place, while Brazil occupies third place with 15 and 13 medals, respectively.
The Games kicked off with Caroline Groot of the Netherlands winning the first gold medal in the Women’s C4-5 500m Time Trial Track Cycling event on August 29th. Marie Patouillet from France took home the silver medal, while Canada’s Kate O’Brien won the bronze medal.
This year’s Paralympics in Paris is expected to be a spectacular event, featuring a total of 4,400 athletes from around the globe competing in 549 medal events across 22 sports.
