A 52-year-old Indian-American man, Bobby Singh, has been arrested in Houston, Texas, for the alleged murder of 21-year-old Nepalese student Muna Pandey. Pandey was found dead in her apartment on Monday, with multiple gunshot wounds. Police received an anonymous tip about a body inside the apartment and upon arriving, pronounced her dead.
Two days later, police released a photo of Shah, captured on CCTV leaving Pandey’s apartment on Saturday. He was subsequently arrested during a traffic stop and charged with murder.
According to a GoFundMe page, Pandey had moved from Nepal to study at Houston Community College in 2021. A member of the Nepalese Association of Houston shared that Pandey’s mother had been trying to reach her for days. The association member stated that Pandey’s phone was always online until Saturday night, after which it went offline. They also revealed that Pandey was found lying on her bed with three gunshot wounds and her head down. The investigation is ongoing to uncover further details about the incident.
In light of this tragedy, the Nepal Consulate and the Nepalese Association of Houston are collaborating to assist Pandey’s mother in traveling to Houston. A GoFundMe page has been created to raise funds for her travel expenses, as well as for Pandey’s funeral expenses. The page has already raised nearly $30,000. The Nepalese community is united in their efforts to provide support and comfort to Pandey’s mother during this difficult time. The tragic death of Muna Pandey has shaken the Nepalese community in Houston, highlighting the vulnerability of students who move abroad for their education. This incident underscores the importance of safety and security measures for international students.
