Marc Marquez dominated qualifying for the Aragon MotoGP, securing pole position for both the sprint race and the Grand Prix. The Spaniard, a five-time winner at the circuit, showcased his dominance by setting a new track record on the resurfaced track during Friday’s practice sessions. On Saturday, Marquez solidified his position at the top, becoming the only rider to break the 1 minute 47 seconds barrier. He posted a blistering best lap of 1 minute 46.766 seconds, leaving his fellow Spaniard and GasGas rider, Pedro Acosta, trailing by a substantial 0.84 seconds.
World Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia followed closely behind in third place, finishing just 0.002 seconds behind Acosta on his factory Ducati. Jorge Martin, riding for Ducati-Pramac, faced a setback at the start of the session when he crashed his bike. Despite the mishap, he quickly returned to the pits, swapped bikes, and rejoined the track to secure fourth position.
The pole position for Marquez comes as a welcome boost for the Ducati satellite rider. Bagnaia, the current championship leader, holds a narrow five-point advantage over Martin in the riders’ standings as they head into the 12th round of the season. The Aragon MotoGP is shaping up to be a thrilling weekend, with Marquez’s impressive qualifying performance setting the stage for a highly anticipated sprint race and Grand Prix.
