Mohun Bagan Super Giant is on the verge of history as they battle NorthEast United FC in the 2024 Durand Cup final. The Kolkata giants, currently tied 2-2 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, are aiming to defend their title and etch their name in the history books once again.
Mohun Bagan, the most successful team in the competition’s history with a record 17 titles, is in pursuit of their 18th championship. A victory would not only solidify their dominance but also mark their third consecutive Durand Cup triumph.
Their last successful title defense dates back to 1986. In that year, Mohun Bagan faced their arch-rivals, East Bengal FC, in the final. A solitary goal from Debashish Roy secured a 1-0 victory and cemented their place as the reigning champions.
Since then, Mohun Bagan has only managed to win the Durand Cup three times, adding to their already impressive legacy. With the 2024 final in their sights, the Green and Maroon Brigade is ready to take on the challenge and claim their record-extending 18th title.
