Durgapur Airport Welcomes New Flights, Boosting Connectivity in Eastern India

The Durgapur Airport in Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal has received a boost in connectivity with the addition of two new flight routes operated by IndiGo. The new routes connect Bhubaneswar to Bagdogra in Siliguri and Guwahati, offering passengers more travel options and strengthening the region’s economic growth.

The Bhubaneswar-Durgapur-Bagdogra flight commenced operations on Friday, operating four days a week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The Bhubaneswar-Durgapur-Guwahati route began operations on Saturday, running three days a week – Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. These new routes are expected to significantly enhance travel convenience for passengers, making it easier for them to connect with key destinations within the eastern region of India.

The addition of these routes further strengthens the already established network of flights at Durgapur Airport, which serves as a vital transportation hub for the industrial belt of Paschim Bardhaman district. The airport currently offers connections to major cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Kailash Mandal, Director and Accountable Executive of Durgapur Airport, expressed his enthusiasm about the new flight routes, stating, “We are excited to welcome these new flights that will undoubtedly boost connectivity across key destinations in the region. The Bhubaneswar-Durgapur-Bagdogra and Bhubaneswar-Durgapur-Guwahati routes are essential additions to our network, and we are confident that these services will not only cater to the growing demand but also enhance the overall travel experience for our passengers.”

It is important to note that the Durgapur Airport experienced temporary suspension of flight operations in August due to waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall in the surrounding areas. The airport remained closed for three days before resuming operations on August 5.

The addition of these new flight routes marks a significant step forward in improving connectivity and accessibility for the eastern region of India, promoting tourism and fostering economic growth within the region.
