BJP Leader Accuses West Bengal Government of Obstructing Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case Investigation

The brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata has ignited widespread outrage and protests across India. The case has taken a political turn with BJP leader Dilip Ghosh accusing the West Bengal government of hindering the investigation and attempting to shield the accused.

Ghosh, in a statement to ANI, alleged that the state government is deliberately trying to confuse the public and suppress evidence. He further accused the state police of failing to cooperate with the CBI, which has taken over the investigation following a Calcutta High Court order.

“The state government tried to create confusion among the public and destroy the evidence… The state government is still trying to obstruct the enquiry and save the accused. The state police is not coordinating with CBI… Every work that is being done by the state government, be it the principal, be it the DC, be it the CP or from the Chief Minister to all other leaders, these people want to dilute it deliberately,” Ghosh stated.

Ghosh also pointed out that despite numerous crimes against women during Mamata Banerjee’s rule, very few cases have been resolved. “Even before this 48,000 such cases of crime have happened during Mamata Banerjee’s rule, none of them has been solved,” he added.

The incident has sparked a war of words between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the National Conference of District Judiciary, emphasized the need for swift action in cases of violence against women. He highlighted the strict laws in place for women’s safety but stressed the need for more proactive measures to ensure justice is served swiftly.

The victim, a trainee doctor, was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9th. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, has been arrested in connection with the incident. The case has been transferred to the CBI, and the investigation is ongoing.

The incident has triggered nationwide protests from doctors demanding justice for the victim and stricter security measures for healthcare professionals. Doctors across various states have organized demonstrations, highlighting the vulnerability of medical personnel and demanding enhanced safety laws.
