Scheffler on Verge of FedEx Cup Glory, Leads Morikawa by Five Entering Final Round

Scottie Scheffler stands on the brink of his first FedEx Cup championship, holding a commanding five-stroke lead over Collin Morikawa heading into the final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. Scheffler, who has dominated the PGA Tour this season, entered the tournament as the FedEx Cup leader for the third consecutive year. He finished second in 2022 and 2023, but now appears destined for the coveted title and a $25 million payday.

After a slow start to his third round, Scheffler ignited with birdies on the 14th, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes, carding a 5-under 66 and extending his lead over Morikawa, who shot a 67. Scheffler is now at 26-under par entering the final round.

If Scheffler clinches the championship, he will become the first player to win seven times in a single season since Tiger Woods in 2007. This achievement would solidify his place as one of the most dominant players in recent PGA Tour history.

While Morikawa is the closest pursuer, Sahith Theegala is hot on his heels in third place after a brilliant final round. He birdied his last five holes and seven of his last eight to card a 66, propelling him to 17-under par. Theegala, however, faced a two-stroke penalty for grounding his club in a bunker on the third hole, turning a potential par into a double bogey. The PGA Tour, however, will review the incident after the round.

Wyndham Clark and Adam Scott are tied for fifth at 15-under par, while Sam Burns moved to 14-under par. Shane Lowry of Ireland showcased a strong performance, firing a 6-under 65 with seven birdies to move to 13-under par, tying Norway’s Viktor Hovland for the day’s low score.

All eyes will be on Scheffler as he attempts to seal a historic victory in the final round. His dominance throughout the season has been undeniable, and a FedEx Cup win would add another chapter to his remarkable year.
