Get ready to explore the lush landscapes of Tamil Nadu! The state’s Wildlife authorities are launching one-day trekking trips across various forest areas, providing an exciting opportunity for trekking enthusiasts to experience the region’s natural beauty.
To manage this initiative, the ‘TN Wilderness Experience Corporation’ has been established, and the first trial trek from Avalanche to Koleribetta was successfully completed on Saturday. Vismiju Viswanathan, the head of the newly formed corporation, revealed that 40 locations across 18 forest divisions have been meticulously identified for these treks. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, 400 individuals have been rigorously trained as guides, with each trekking route staffed by a team of 10 trained professionals.
The trekking routes in Tamil Nadu are categorized as easy, moderate, and tough, catering to various fitness levels and preferences. While a total of 124 trekking routes have been approved, only 40 have been selected for this initiative, ensuring a focus on well-maintained and accessible paths. These routes include popular tourist destinations, promising breathtaking views and memorable experiences.
The trained guides have undergone comprehensive training in essential skills, including basic hospitality, hygiene practices, local biodiversity knowledge, first aid techniques, back drill procedures, and effective communication. They are equipped with backpacks, trekking shoes, and uniforms, ensuring they are prepared for any challenge.
The treks will be moderate in difficulty, lasting for a single day, with no overnight camping in the forest areas. Each trek will be limited to a maximum of 15 participants, ensuring personalized attention and a more intimate experience. The department will provide basic refreshments during the treks, and the cost will range from ₹600 to ₹5,000, depending on the chosen route and its complexity.
To ensure the safety and well-being of participants, the department will provide insurance coverage. This crucial component of the trekking program is being finalized, with the corporation expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with an insurance company in the coming week.
The launch of these one-day trekking trips marks a significant step towards promoting responsible tourism in Tamil Nadu, providing a sustainable and accessible way for visitors to experience the state’s natural wonders. With well-trained guides, carefully chosen routes, and a focus on safety, these treks promise a unique and unforgettable adventure for all.
