Heavy Rains Prompt Work-from-Home Advisory in Hyderabad, Schools Closed

Telangana is battling heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to issue advisories and safety measures. In Hyderabad, the Joint Commissioner of the Hyderabad Traffic Police, D Joel Davis, urged IT and ITES companies to encourage work-from-home arrangements on September 2nd, 2024. This advisory aims to minimize risks associated with commuting during heavy rains and reduce traffic congestion, ensuring emergency services are not hindered.

The Hyderabad district collector has also announced the closure of all primary and secondary schools in the city on September 2nd as a precautionary measure. This decision was taken in light of the heavy rainfall forecast and ensures the safety of students.

The state’s flood situation is also being monitored closely. In Khammam, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu visited flood-affected areas and relief shelters, directing officials to provide necessary support to victims. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has also instructed all government officials to be on high alert. The water flow in Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad has increased due to the heavy rainfall.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, Telangana is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next three days. Red warnings have been issued for September 2nd and 3rd for the eastern and northeastern districts, while north and south districts are under orange warnings. All districts are under heavy rainfall warnings, with Hyderabad experiencing moderate to heavy rains at times.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the Southwest monsoon has been active over Telangana, leading to very heavy rainfall in Narayanpet and heavy rainfall in various other districts, including Mahabubabad, Warangal, B. Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Mulugu, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet, and Wanaparthy. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of the public.
