The 2024 US Presidential race has taken an interesting turn with Vice President Kamala Harris gaining a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump in key battleground states. While only two months remain until the November elections, the political landscape has shifted significantly since the Labor Day weekend.
According to reports by NBC News, Harris is consistently outperforming Trump in national polls, even within the margins of error. Trump, on the other hand, has consistently registered around 47% support across various surveys, including those conducted by the Wall Street Journal, EPIC-MRA Michigan, and Bloomberg/Morning Consult. This consistent number stands in stark contrast to the polls observed before President Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
Harris’s lead is particularly evident in key swing states. Bloomberg/Morning Consult polls indicate that she has surpassed Trump within the margin of error in Georgia (50%), Michigan (49%), Nevada (50%), and Pennsylvania (51%). In Wisconsin, a pivotal swing state, the Vice President enjoys a wider lead of 53% over Trump.
The race in Arizona and North Carolina remains tight, with a close contest between Trump and Harris. This presents a significant contrast to Biden’s performance during his re-election campaign, where he struggled to gain traction in these same states.
Prior to Harris stepping into the Democratic candidate role, Biden was trailing behind Trump, even before the US Presidential debate on June 27th. However, recent polls suggest that Harris’s leadership qualities and trustworthiness are resonating with voters, particularly in the Great Lakes swing states and the Sun Belt.
Data from the Wall Street Journal, Quinnipiac, and Suffolk/USA Today show Harris leading with percentages of 48%, 49%, and 48%, respectively, while Trump stands at 47%, 48%, and 43% in these surveys. These numbers suggest a potential shift in momentum in the race, with Harris’s strong performance highlighting her potential as a formidable candidate.
