Russia Sees Kamala Harris as More Predictable Adversary Than Trump

As the US presidential race heats up, Russia has made an intriguing observation. While not expecting warmer relations with the US regardless of who wins, the Kremlin believes Democratic candidate Kamala Harris would be a more predictable adversary than incumbent Donald Trump. This statement came from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who spoke with TV reporter Pavel Zarubin.

Peskov’s comment was in response to Trump’s claim that he could swiftly resolve the Ukraine conflict if re-elected, a notion Peskov dismissed as “fantasy.” Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had voiced a preference for Joe Biden over Trump, calling the former an “old school” politician. However, with Biden’s withdrawal from the election and endorsement of Harris, Peskov stated, “We have no candidate. But, of course, the Democrats are more predictable. And what Putin said about Biden’s predictability applies to almost all Democrats, including Ms. Harris.”

This perception of Harris as predictable comes after her significant role in a prisoner-swap deal with Russia in August that freed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan from Russian detention. It also follows the Biden administration’s recent actions of tightening sanctions on 105 Russian and Chinese firms for their alleged military support of Russia.

The Kremlin’s view on Harris’s predictability is noteworthy as recent polls show her leading Trump, suggesting a potential shift in the political landscape.
