A soldier sustained critical injuries after terrorists opened fire on a sentry post outside the Sunjuwan army base in Jammu on Monday morning. The attack occurred around 10:50 am, with a few rounds being fired at the Sunjuwan Military Station, located on the outskirts of Jammu.
According to defense sources, the terrorists likely used a sniper rifle for the attack. The incident sparked panic in the area, leading to a joint search operation launched by the Jammu Police and the army to locate and neutralize the assailants.
Additional reinforcements have been deployed, and the army is using drones to locate the terrorists. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police joined the search operation, but as of now, there has been no contact with the attackers.
The Sunjuwan brigade is the largest military base in Jammu city. This incident comes just months after a similar attack on the same base in February 2018, which resulted in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists.
The attack has raised concerns about security in the region, especially given the upcoming assembly elections. Several high-profile leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi, are expected to hold election rallies in the state. The incident underscores the heightened security challenges in the region and the need for increased vigilance during this sensitive period.
