Hyde London City Opens Doors, Bringing Vibrant New Energy to Historic Landmark

Hyde London City, a dynamic new addition to the renowned Hyde hotel brand, has proudly opened its doors, marking the brand’s highly anticipated UK debut. The hotel breathes new life into the breathtaking 19th-century Spiers & Pond building in Farringdon, a Grade II-listed structure steeped in history and cultural significance. This vibrant newcomer brings Hyde’s signature free-spirited energy to one of London’s most captivating and historic neighborhoods.

Spanning seven stories, Hyde London City features 111 stylish guest rooms, each meticulously designed to evoke a sense of exploration while paying homage to the building’s architectural heritage. The hotel’s design, masterfully crafted by London-based hospitality design specialists Studio Moren, draws inspiration from Darwin’s seminal works and the kaleidoscope’s captivating discovery, infusing the space with a sense of energy and fascination. Ed Murray, Associate at Studio Moren, highlights the design approach: “We were appointed as specialist hotel architects and interior designers to design the project inside and out. We have embraced the location within the City of London while also exploring the Victorian history that would have inspired the building’s original designers.”

The Hyde brand’s signature elements are woven throughout the hotel, from the surf poncho-inspired robes to the cozy sliders, ensuring each guest enjoys a unique blend of comfort and unforgettable experiences. The hotel’s Headliner Suite, perched under the eaves with a breathtaking 5-meter-high ceiling, offers sweeping views of St. Paul’s Cathedral and London’s iconic skyline. This luxurious suite also features a private marble-topped bar, making it an ideal retreat for indulging in sundowners.

Downstairs, guests can immerse themselves in the vibrant flavors of Leydi, a contemporary Turkish restaurant that brings the bustling culinary traditions of Istanbul to London. Curated by acclaimed chef Selin Kiazim and Halil Simsek, Leydi’s menu features a delightful array of hearty meze, freshly baked pide, and meats and fish grilled on a Mangal, encouraging diners to savor shared meals in a communal, family-style setting. The drink menu, crafted by award-winning mixologist Kevin Patnode, boasts a variety of raki-based cocktails and a selection of Mediterranean wines, perfectly complementing the restaurant’s inviting and chic interior, creating the perfect backdrop for leisurely dining and soaking in the city’s lively pulse.

As evening descends, the energy shifts to Black Lacquer, a cozy cocktail bar nestled underground, celebrating a passion for music and echoing Hyde’s roots in the Los Angeles club scene. With its discreet entrance on Green Arbour Court, Black Lacquer features intimate booths set within the pavement vaults, surrounded by an expertly chosen vinyl collection. The bar’s laid-back yet sophisticated setting is a tribute to the harmonious blend of food, drink, and music, making it an ideal spot for everything from unwinding to dancing. Guests can enjoy skillfully crafted cocktails and Tokyo-inspired small plates in this dynamic space. The bar’s constantly evolving soundtrack, curated daily from a vast array of vinyl records, adjusts to the time of day and the atmosphere, creating a unique auditory journey. Black Lacquer’s cultural agenda will include collaborations with up-and-coming DJs and artists, solidifying its role as a vibrant social gathering place.

Hyde London City’s strategic location offers convenient access to some of the city’s most iconic historical and cultural sites, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Old Bailey, 180 Studios, and the Barbican Centre. Visitors can also explore the nearby Clerkenwell area, known for its showrooms, concept stores, and art galleries, especially during the famous Design Week. The hotel’s cultural and musical programs will be heavily influenced by the area’s rich history and burgeoning creative scene, aligning with Hyde’s signature brand ethos.
