Astronergy, a leading solar module supplier, is playing a key role in Algeria’s ambitious plan to build a massive 2,000 MW solar power plant network. The company has secured contracts from two major Chinese construction firms, China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE) and Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), to provide a total of 1 gigawatt (GW) of its n-type TOPCon solar modules. This significant investment will support the construction of 15 solar power plants across 12 provinces in Algeria, each with a capacity ranging from 80 to 220 MW.
Astronergy has secured contracts for six of these projects, including the Abadla 80MW PV plant, Batemete 220MW PV plant, Gueltet Sidi Saad 200MW PV plant, Douar El Maa 200MW PV plant, Ouled Djellal 80MW PV plant, and the Biskra 220MW PV plant. The Biskra project, one of the largest in the 2,000 MW plan, is already under construction and utilizes Astronergy’s ASTRO N5 TOPCon solar modules.
The Algerian government sees this project as a crucial step in its energy transition strategy, aiming to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The project is expected to create over 600 jobs in the local community, boosting economic development and promoting sustainable practices. Once completed, the solar plants are estimated to generate approximately 400 million kWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to a reduction of 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Astronergy is a major player in the African renewable energy market, having previously provided solar modules for projects like the Noor Ouarzazate PV plant in Morocco and the Benban solar plant in Egypt. The company remains committed to supporting the transition to green energy solutions worldwide, collaborating with partners to deliver reliable products that contribute to sustainable development.
