The University of Delhi (DU) has successfully allocated 74,108 seats for its undergraduate programmes in the third round of admissions, covering 71,600 spots. The admissions process, which began on August 31, has witnessed a surge in applications, with 28,810 students seeking to upgrade their college and course preferences for the 2024-25 academic year. A significant portion of the allocated seats, 45,298, were frozen by applicants who accepted their allocated placements.
This round of admissions incorporates several supernumerary quotas aimed at supporting specific student groups. A new quota for single-girl child applicants has been implemented, reserving one seat per programme across all DU colleges. This quota has successfully allocated 764 seats. Furthermore, the university has continued its initiative to support orphaned students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic by reserving one seat per programme for both male and female orphans. 132 seats have been allocated under this quota, which was introduced last year.
The admissions process also incorporates performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas for students with special achievements in extracurricular activities (ECA) and sports, as well as for children of widows of armed forces personnel (CW). The university has allocated 1,061 seats for ECA, 1,648 for sports, and 332 for performance-based programmes.
The seat allotment for Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and the CW category is still pending and will be announced shortly.
