Sam Pitroda: Rahul Gandhi Has Prime Ministerial Qualities, Is More Intellectual Than Rajiv

Sam Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, has made a strong statement about Rahul Gandhi’s potential as a future Prime Minister. In an interview with PTI from Chicago, Pitroda, a close advisor to the Gandhi family, proclaimed that Rahul possesses all the qualities needed for the top job. He went further, suggesting that Rahul is more intellectual than his father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Pitroda emphasized that both Rahul and Rajiv are ‘custodians of the idea of India,’ sharing a deep commitment to the country’s development and the well-being of its people. However, he highlighted a key difference: Rahul is a more strategic thinker compared to his father.

Drawing on his extensive experience witnessing various Prime Ministers in action, Pitroda explained, “The difference between Rahul and Rajiv maybe is that Rahul is much more intellectual, thinker, Rajiv was a little more doer. They have the same DNA, they have the same concerns and feelings for the people, they genuinely believe in building a better India for everybody, they are genuinely simple people. They don’t have big personal needs.” He acknowledged that their upbringing and experiences have shaped them differently, with Rahul facing the devastating losses of his grandmother and father.

When asked directly whether he sees prime ministerial qualities in Rahul, Pitroda emphatically responded, “Absolutely, no question about it.” He emphasized that the final decision rests with the people, but based on his personal experience, he believes Rahul is highly capable. “From my personal experience and I may be biased, I think he is very capable. He is a decent human being, he is well educated, he has the right DNA and I see him as the custodian of the idea of democracy that the Congress has always promoted,” Pitroda stated.

Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to the US from September 8-10 will involve engagements in Washington DC and Dallas. During this visit, he will interact with various individuals and groups on Capitol Hill, including press conferences, meetings with think tanks, and discussions at Georgetown University. Pitroda clarified that this trip is not in Rahul’s official capacity but will provide opportunities for him to connect with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.
