A tragic shooting incident unfolded at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia, on Wednesday, leaving two people dead and four injured. According to reports from MSNBC, cited by Reuters, authorities have confirmed the casualties.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by CNN, stated that one individual is in custody. Multiple law enforcement agencies, fire and emergency services personnel were dispatched to the scene, which was initially reported as an active shooting. However, the situation appears to be under control, and students were released from the school around midday, as confirmed by a Barrow County Schools spokesperson. Live aerial television footage showed numerous ambulances stationed outside the high school.
In an earlier statement, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, cited by CNN, indicated that casualties had been reported, but specific details regarding their number or condition were not yet available. Authorities were initially dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:23 am ET. The sheriff’s office has described the situation as ongoing.
US media reports indicated that Apalachee High School sent a message to parents informing them of a hard lockdown in response to reports of gunfire. The message urged parents not to attempt to come to the school while law enforcement worked to secure the area.
