Dharambir, a talented athlete, secured the men’s club throw F51 gold, securing India’s fifth gold medal in the Games. He achieved this remarkable feat by setting an Asian record of 34.92m in the final. This victory marks a significant achievement, as India previously won five gold, six silver, and eight bronze medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.
India’s performance at the Paris Paralympics has been exceptionally strong, with the nation securing a record-breaking haul of medals. They have already secured five gold, eight silver, and ten bronze medals, surpassing their previous best performance in a single Paralympic Games.
Adding to India’s success, Avani Lekhara, a celebrated Paralympic athlete, successfully defended her title in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event, claiming India’s first gold medal in Paris. Nitesh Kumar, another star performer, won gold in the men’s singles SL3 para badminton event, defeating Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in a thrilling final.
India’s dominance continued with Sumit Antil securing the nation’s third gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F64 with a Paralympic record of 70.59m. Further cementing India’s success in Paris, Harvinder Singh achieved a historic first-ever gold medal in para archery, defeating Lukasz Ciszek of Poland in the men’s individual recurve open final. This victory marked India’s fourth gold medal at the Games and Harvinder Singh’s second medal in this Paralympic edition.
