Heavy Rains Across India: IMD Issues Alerts for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and More

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings and alerts for heavy rainfall across various parts of India. The agency has issued an orange alert for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, indicating the possibility of very heavy rainfall on September 5th. Tragically, three children lost their lives in Panchkula, Haryana, after a brick kiln wall collapsed while they were seeking shelter from the rain.

In northern India, heavy rainfall disrupted traffic and rail movements on September 4th, causing waterlogging in Delhi. The IMD issued a yellow alert for Delhi, predicting the possibility of heavy showers.

Forecast for West and Central India:

The IMD forecasts “fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall” in West and Central India for the next six days. Heavy rainfall is expected in Gujarat, particularly in Saurashtra and Kutch regions until September 6th. Maharashtra is likely to experience heavy rainfall until September 8th, followed by another spell on September 10th. Goa is also predicted to experience heavy rain until September 8th.

Forecast for South Peninsular India:

Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely in Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana on September 4th and 5th. The IMD forecasts “isolated heavy rainfall” in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka, and North Interior Karnataka until September 8th. South Interior Karnataka is expected to see isolated heavy rainfall until September 7th, while Kerala and Mahe are likely to experience similar conditions between September 8th and 10th.

Forecast for East and Northeast India:

The IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until September 11th. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Arunachal Pradesh until September 6th, in West Bengal, Bihar, and Sikkim today, in Bihar until September 6th, and in Odisha until September 8th.

Forecast for Northwest India:

The IMD predicts heavy downpours in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan until September 8th, and in Uttar Pradesh until September 6th.
