Kejriwal Challenges Arrest in Supreme Court, Calls it ‘Insurance Arrest’

On Thursday, the Supreme Court heard two separate pleas filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The first challenged the legality of his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while the second sought bail in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

During the hearing, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued before a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan that his client, being a constitutional functionary, was not a flight risk. Singhvi went on to characterize the CBI’s arrest as an “insurance arrest,” implying it was made as a precautionary measure rather than based on substantial evidence.

This development marks a significant point in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Delhi Excise Policy case. Kejriwal’s legal team is now seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention to determine the validity of his arrest and potentially secure his release on bail. The court’s decision on these pleas will be closely watched by the public and political observers alike.
