Lenovo’s Auto Twist PC: A Futuristic Laptop That Twists and Turns on Voice Command

At IFA 2024, Lenovo unveiled the Auto Twist PC, a concept laptop that’s sure to capture your attention. It might just be the most fascinating laptop of the year so far, pushing the boundaries of what a laptop can be.

While still a proof of concept, the Auto Twist PC introduces some truly exciting features. The most notable is its ability to open and close its lid with voice commands. Simply say, “Hey Twist, open lid,” and the laptop will respond. The “twist” in the name refers to the display’s ability to rotate almost 180 degrees, transforming from a traditional laptop into a tablet mode. This transformation, too, is controlled by voice, with the command “Hey Twist, enter tablet mode.”

But the Auto Twist PC’s features don’t stop there. The “Free Move” mode allows the laptop to follow you around the room using its camera. This feature could be particularly useful in boardrooms or classrooms, enabling you to move freely while presenting. The camera currently doesn’t use facial recognition, so it might choose one face to follow if multiple people are in the frame. Additionally, the laptop can take panoramic photos using its twisting hinge and webcam, stitching them together with the help of AI.

The Auto Twist PC also includes practical features like automatic lid closure when unattended. The technology is still in development, with some minor glitches like a small gap when closing the lid manually and a slightly wobbly screen. However, the demos were impressive, showcasing the potential of this innovative concept. The voice commands were surprisingly responsive and worked in multiple languages.

Lenovo has a history of experimenting with laptop design, as seen in the ThinkBook Plus Twist. The Auto Twist PC builds upon that legacy, using a swiveling hinge for even more impressive functionality. While there’s no guarantee Lenovo will release this device, the company has a proven track record of bringing experimental ideas to market. It’s exciting to imagine a future where laptops are as adaptable and responsive as the Auto Twist PC.
