Axar Patel’s brilliance on Thursday saved India D from a potential rout against India C in the first round of the Duleep Trophy. The match, being played at the Rural Trust Development Stadium, was heading towards a one-sided affair before Axar’s heroics revived the contest. His rescue act, which included an 84-run ninth-wicket partnership with Arshdeep Singh, prevented India C from securing a comfortable victory.
Axar’s knock of 86 runs, laced with six fours and six sixes, injected life into the match. He especially came to life in the second session, smashing two sixes and a boundary off Manav Suthar, and re-energizing the spectators who had begun to lose interest.
The India A vs India B Duleep Trophy match is being played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the India C vs India D match is taking place at the Rural Development Trust Stadium “A” in Ananthapur.
