Get ready to pedal your way through Hong Kong’s iconic cityscape! The Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) Hong Kong Cyclothon, organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), is set to return on Sunday, October 13, 2024, with an exciting twist – a sports-themed carnival. This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, with new routes, thrilling experiences, and a vibrant carnival atmosphere.
The Cyclothon, Hong Kong’s largest cycling event, welcomes both local and international participants, offering a chance for Indian cycling enthusiasts to enjoy a thrilling event closer to home. Registration opens online on August 16th, 2024.
Exciting New Routes for Cyclists
Two well-loved cycling events, the 50 km and 32 km rides, have been enhanced with exciting new routes. The 50 km route now includes a fourth tunnel, bringing the total to four tunnels and three bridges, which are typically off-limits to cyclists. These bridges and tunnels offer a unique perspective on Hong Kong’s urban landscape, allowing participants to experience the city’s iconic landmarks from a different angle.
The 32 km ride has also been extended and includes breathtaking views of Hong Kong’s harbor from the Ting Kau Bridge, in addition to the Stonecutters Bridge. Both routes conclude at the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), where the new carnival awaits.
WKCD Wonderland: A Sports-Themed Carnival
HKTB is launching an all-new carnival at WKCD, featuring a blend of sports, local food and beverages, eye-catching large installations, and a cycling-themed market. This carnival is a perfect opportunity for cyclists and the public alike to enjoy a day of fun and entertainment.
Charity and Community Support
In line with SHKP’s charitable initiatives, participants are encouraged to donate between HK$100-500 upon registration. All registration fees from the CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride, along with the Family Fun Ride, will go to the Community Chest of Hong Kong. SHKP will also match the donations to further support those in need.
Family Fun Ride for All Ages
The Family Fun Ride will once again offer 300 participants the chance to cycle a 1 km stretch along Salisbury Road, typically off-limits to cyclists. Children six and older are welcome to ride alongside their parents, making it a perfect family-friendly activity.
City Cycling Challenge Around Greater Bay Area
The City Cycling Challenge around Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) – Sun Hung Kai Properties Men’s and Women’s Opens will take place in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. Professional cyclists from across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will compete for the championship, highlighting Hong Kong’s role as a global tourism destination and major event hub within the GBA. Spectators can cheer on the cyclists as they race past the city’s iconic skyscrapers.
Registration and Technical Skills Test
Registration for the SHKP Hong Kong Cyclothon begins on Friday, August 16th, at 10 am on the event’s official webpage. The event has limited spots available, so register early on a first-come, first-served basis.
To ensure everyone’s safety, all cyclists must successfully complete a technical skills test, except those who participated in the 2022 or 2023 Hong Kong Cyclothon or athletes certified by the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China.
Road Closures and Traffic Diversions
To support the event, road closures and traffic diversions will be in place near the race routes and event venues starting from 1 am on October 13th. The HKTB will announce further details to the public in advance, so travelers are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid disruptions.
